French for Beginners or Intermediate
Students with little or no experience with French. We will begin at the absolute beginning with all the basics and work with a textbook, workbook, as well as an easy reader with comprehension questions, and online video programs. All basic greetings, first conjugations, verbs, grammar, pronunciation, and vocabulary will be taught. Students as young as 10 and up are welcome.
French Conversation (Beginners or Low Intermediate)
This course is recommended for high beginner or low intermediate students of French who already know the basics of French grammar and vocabulary but who want to practice speaking. Students will be supplied with a conversation topic and suggested vocabulary. Topics could include talking about hobbies, advertising, food, fashion, technology, transportation, travel, family etc. Practice speaking in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
French Tutoring (middle or high school students)
This is recommended for students of middle school, high school, or college students enrolled in a course who need additional help with course materials, preparing for tests or presentations. Materials will be supplied by the student.
French Book Club
This course will be designed for intermediate to advanced language learners. This course will be partially a self-paced multiple-week program. A book will be selected to read and discuss according to a syllabus. I will supply worksheets for self-paced work on vocabulary and comprehension, and these will have deadlines for completion each week to be corrected by me. These will help keep students on track with reading. Then, every other week there will be a live session with the teacher for the discussion of themes and characters and a review of any questions the student may have. One of the books now available for the course is ‘Le Petit Prince’ by Saint- Exupery. This is not a children’s book. It is a very introspective, philosophical story about the most important things in life, with themes of friendship, love, learning and travel. It is an absolute must read for learners of French. Also available are ‘L’etranger’ by Camus, and ‘Le Monde est Mon Language’ by Alain Mabanckou, and ‘Journal d’un ecrivain en pyjama’ by Dany Laferriere. Soon to be available are ‘Short Stories’ by Maupassant, and ‘Huis Clos’ by Sartre.
